Background
Arumbu, Child Development Project, a direct intervention project located in Chennai was launched in the year 2005.
Goal
Ensure that children living in slums in Chennai are given equitable and sustainable opportunities for their learning, development and growth.
Objectives
- To make the existing boys clubs more meaningful and child friendly
- To create equal opportunities for girls through promoting girls clubs
- To provide livelihood education and training for youth in slums
- To mobilize the participation of community, police department and other stakeholders in the development process
- To promote all round development of children with focus on sports, personality development, art, music and cultural activities

Major Accomplishments
- Renovation and repairs were undertaken in 32 Boys clubs and 2 Girls clubs to the tune of Rs.3,03 917/-
- Setting up of 17 Girls Clubs
- Mainstreaming of 210 dropout children in schools
- Special coaching in academics for all children
- Provision of books, furniture, sports materials and teaching learning materials and first aid kits to clubs
- Establishment of inter club coaching centers in athletics, karate and band set training
Training imparted in street theatre, music and dance
- Formation of Club Development Committees to ensure community participation
- Provision of health care - Eye camps, Dental camps, Blood grouping camps
- Awareness and sensitization on various issues – child rights, rights of the disabaled, AIDS, environment
- Livelihood education and training imparted to 70 youth
- Capacity building of scout masters and teachers
- Flood relief carried out in affected clubs
